Matt’s pick of the day: Downtown Train by Tom Waits

This song was originally done by Tom Waits but was made famous by Rod Stewart. I heard the Rod Stewart version the other day and realized probably no one has heard this original. It's actually been covered a handful of other times by artists like Patty Smyth, Bob Seger and Everything But The Girl. It always fascinates me what songs captivate artists over generations to produce their own version.
